On the afternoon of November 2, Wednesday, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup visited the United States (US) National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA*) and met with NGA Director Frank Whitworth. After being briefed on NGA facilities and its current situation, the two sides exchanged opinions on bilateral intelligence cooperation and ways to deter and respond to North Korea's threats.

Lee expressed thanks to the NGA, also known as the ‘CIA in the sky,’ for its contribution to deterring nuclear and missile provocations from North Korea, including watching for signs of nuclear and conventional force threats from North Korea and conducting analysis work in close cooperation with the ROK military.

The two sides agreed to cooperate closely based on mutual assistance between the ROK military and the US NGA to maintain the absolute advantage against North Korea in the ‘intelligence’ area, a key element of deterrence*.
