On the morning of Wednesday, May 11, just after taking office, Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup held a meeting of the top military commanders of all armed services via video conference. During the meeting, Lee praised the related officials for their hard work, and asked them to maintain a readiness posture in the present situation.

After being briefed on the current status of the military readiness posture, Lee made the assessment that “the security situation on the Korean Peninsula is very grave, with North Korea’s advanced missile threats and possible nuclear tests,” stressing that “we should maintain a firm readiness posture on land, at sea and in the air to respond proactively to omnidirectional security threats.”

Ending the meeting, Lee asked the participants to make every effort to build a ‘solid defense and strong military with scientific technologies,’ stressing that “our mission is to build a solid defense to back up our freedom, peace and prosperity, and all of you who have attended this meeting are taking a leading role in achieving the important task."
