ROK, Russia sign MOU on the installation of Navy-Air Force hotlines

On November 11, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the installation and operation of hotlines between the Navy and Air Force of the two countries.

The MOU was signed by Director General for International Policy Kim Sang-jin on the Korean side, and deputy chief of the National Security Center Victor Kalganov on the Russian side.

The two countries started discussions on the need to install hotlines between the defense authorities of the two countries after the signing of 「Agreement on the prevention of dangerous military acts」 on November 11, 2002. The MOU was finally signed today after bilateral agreement on the draft MOU was reached in the first half of the year.

It is expected that this MOU for the installation of hotlines between the Navies and Air Forces of the two countries can prevent accidental clashes in the air and on the sea by strengthening trust and communication between the ROK-Russia military authorities. The MOU will also contribute to easing tensions and establishing peace in the region.
