With Seoul Defense Dialogue as momentum,
Vice Minister of National Defense holds ROK-ASEAN vice ministers of defense meeting 2021

On September 8, Vice Minister of National Defense Park Jae-min held 「ROK-ASEAN vice ministers of defense meeting 2021」 with representatives from ASEAN member states via video link, building on the momentum achieved in the 10th Seoul Defense Dialogue.

* ASEAN member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam

In this fourth meeting, the participants from each country exchanged opinions during the 「ROK-ASEAN vice defense ministers meeting」 under the theme ‘Development plan for defense cooperation between ROK and ASEAN for peace and prosperity in the region.’ The meeting was not held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Park assessed that the 「ROK-ASEAN vice ministers of defense meeting」, first held in 2017, has become positioned as a minilateral defense council to enhance peace in the region.

Park introduced the New Southern policy being pushed by the ROK government in the defense area, based on the three basic policy values of People, Prosperity, and Peace, to the vice ministers of defense of each ASEAN member state.
