ROK JCS to incorporate Nuclear/WMD Response Headquarters

Prior announcement of legislation of amendment to the Joint Chiefs of Staff Organization

The Ministry of National Defense made a prior announcement of revisions to the Joint Chiefs of Staff Organization on November 10th (Thursday) to establish a nuclear and WMD response headquarters under the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

In order to effectively deter and respond to various nuclear and missile threats from North Korea, the JCS is pushing for the establishment of a new nuclear and WMD response headquarters by expanding and reorganizing the existing nuclear and WMD response center, which is currently under the Strategic Planning Headquarters. The JCS has proposed to the Ministry of National Defense changes in the JCS organization which specify the duties of the newly established nuclear and WMD response headquarters and include details on the adjustment of functions between departments.
