Korea, US, Japan conduct joint anti-submarine drill and rescue training

Anti-submarine drill and rescue training held south of Jeju on April 3-4 in international waters

Improve the capacity to counter North Korea's sophisticated submarine, nuclear, and missile threats

On April 3rd and 4th, the ROK Navy, in collaboration with the US and Japan, carried out an anti-submarine warfare and search and rescue exercise in international waters to the south of Jeju.

The joint anti-submarine drill was conducted six months after September 2022, with the objective of improving the capability of the three nations to combat North Korea's escalating underwater threats, including SLBMs.

The search and rescue training is aimed at preparing for natural disasters and providing humanitarian aid. The training had been held annually from 2008 until 2016 but was suspended for seven years. The recent resumption of the training reflects the efforts to restore security cooperation between Korea, the United States, and Japan.
