Top defense officials from ROK, US and Japan hold phone conference

On Thursday afternoon (8 P.M.), January 13, 2021, the Republic of Korea (ROK), the United States (US) and Japan held phone talks among top officials of defense authorities.

Chief of the Defense Policy Office of the Ministry of National Defense Kim Man-ki, US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Ely Ratner, and Chief of Defense Policy of Japanese defense ministry Kazuo Masuda took part in the talks Thursday as representatives from their respective countries. 

The three representatives shared their assessment of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, including the North Korea’s recent missile launches.

Significantly, the ROK and the US agreed to accelerate an in-depth analysis of and setting the direction to respond to the growing missile threats and challenges from North Korea.
