On May 18, Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup conducted a visit to the Air Force's 1st Fighter Wing, where he observed the efforts being made to build a resilient and combat-ready military. During his visit, Minister Lee provided encouragement to the soldiers who are committed to fulfilling their missions.

Minister Lee's first stop was the simulator training center of the integrated education battalion, where he emphasized the significance of fostering an environment that gives top priority to intensive training for elite combat pilots. He called upon the personnel to collaborate in preserving the Air Force's combat-oriented strength and cultivating their combat skills and unwavering warrior spirit, ensuring they adhere to the principle of never losing a battle throughout their training.

Minister Lee then proceeded to a hangar, where he conducted a thorough inspection of the safety management systems and aircraft maintenance. This intensive checkup aimed to ensure the highest level of safety. Minister Lee emphasized the significance of safety management, stating that it serves as the foundation for a robust, combat-oriented military. The safety of personnel, equipment, and materials is vital for maintaining readiness and achieving victory. Minister Lee highlighted that effective safety management and meticulous maintenance are essential elements of operational preparedness.

Minister Lee engaged in a luncheon gathering with four Polish Air Force pilots who are currently undergoing training under the ROK Air Force. These trainees are receiving education in alignment with the FA-50 fighter export contract established with Poland last year.

Minister Lee informed the Polish pilots, "The First Fighter Wing is renowned for producing top-notch pilots within the ROK Air Force, and it has a wealth of experience and expertise in training pilots from countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Iraq."

Furthermore, he conveyed that they should take pride in being the core talents responsible for Poland's security and serving as military diplomats representing their nation as they participate in flight training.

He further expressed his hope that the training would contribute to the continued expansion of defense cooperation between Korea and Poland.

The training of Polish Air Force pilots is divided into two phases. The initial phase, which commenced on February 22 and will conclude on July 21, involves four pilots completing the basic course in the 1st Fighter Wing before proceeding to an intensive course at the 16th Fighter Wing. The second phase began on May 8 and will conclude on October 13, during which another group of four pilots will undergo basic training at the 1st Fighter Wing.
