 Army to participate in ADMM-Plus combined training


The Korean Army is participating in maritime security and counter terrorism training, organized by ADMM-Plus, and is developing its combined and joint operational capabilities. Held from the 1st to 12th of May around Brunei and Singapore, the training will be the first combined training that ADMM-Plus organizes. ADMM-Plus is a conference system for 10 ASEAN member countries and the defense ministers of 8 countries – Korea, the U.S., Japan, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, India, etc. Our army has deployed a 4,400-ton class destroyer, a helicopter and approximately 300 soldiers for this training.


The marine security combined training consists of rescue of seized merchant ship and sailors, surveillance and salvage exercise. 17 fleets, 19 helicopters, 3 maritime patrol aircraft, P-3, are deployed from 15 countries. Our military also participates with Choi Young Ham and Lynx of the 20th Cheonghae unit, which is returning after successfully completing a safe navigation mission for domestic and overseas ships in waters near the Gulf of Aden.


The goal of the counter terrorism combined training is to enable soldiers to rescue sailors and hostages held captive on a merchant ship or a pirate base on land. 15 land teams and 7 marine teams from 16 countries participated in the training. Our military has deployed special army and naval forces and 3 field-grade staff officers.
