16 South Sudanese Opinion Leaders learn from the Miracle on the Han River

The 6th Hanbit unit taught key South Sudanese personnel of the Miracle of the Han River, while carrying out humanitarian activities in South Sudan, which has suffered from an extended civil war.

On March 22, an official from the unit commented “16 key South Sudanese opinion leaders visited Korea from March 2 to 14 to witness and experience Korea’s development phase and advanced technology. We are hoping to expand exchange and cooperation between our countries, and aid in entry to the African markets by government and non-governmental organizations.

This training is the second such training since 2014. It is designed to provide a driving force for the national development of South Sudan and maximize the performance of reconstruction support and civil-military operations of Hanbit unit.

The South Sudanese training group consisted of a vice president and professors from a national university who were recommended by the South Sudanese government, a director of the central government, management of the military and the police, reporters, and others. With the goal of the long-term development of human resources connected with ‘Hanbit Agricultural technology Research Center’ and ‘Vocational school,’ Hanbit unit selected the final 16 following a deliberation within the unit.

The training took place at the army consolidated maintenance depot, Korea Polytechnics, Saemaul Undong Central Training Institute, Rural Development Administration, Korea International Cooperation Agency, etc. so the final 16 leaders could see, hear and experience the history of Korea's development for themselves. This increased the efficiency by differing the training spots according to the features of each target such as government and education, national defense and security, etc.

The director of civil-military cooperation for the 6th Hanbit unit Major Kim Yun-min said, “This training in Korea will provide great motivation to change and develop South Sudan. All the unit soldiers will focus on what they do best so that South Sudan can bear the fruits of reconstruction, bringing peace and stability.”
