Korea-Indonesia discuss KF-X project cooperation

1

Minister of National Defense Han Min-koo discussed ways to develop defense cooperation with Indonesian defense minister, Ryamizard Ryacudu, at the MND building in Seoul on the afternoon of Mar. 23.

During the talks, the ministers evaluated the current status of exchange cooperation in the area of defense, including the exchange of high-level military personnel, and exchanged their views on pending issues related to defense cooperation such as the project for the joint development of a Korean fighter, the KF-X. Indonesia is our partner in this project, bearing 20% of the KF-X project's expense.

Minister Han also enlisted the active help of the Indonesian government in solving the North Korean nuclear problems to execute the UN Security Council Resolution on North Korea.

Minister Ryamizard will leave Korea on March 27 after a busy schedule, visiting defense industries and getting an overview of our security.

Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1973, Korea and Indonesia have maintained firm cooperative relations in various economic, social and cultural fields, and closely cooperated for peace and stability of international society.

The MND expects that this defense ministers’ talk will reaffirm the development of defense cooperation based on traditional friendly relations, and strengthen the cooperative will to solve pending security issues in the region.
