On Mar. 28, the Ministry of National Defense announced that coffin rites for 36 Chinese remains had been held at the ‘Temporary Chinese Remains Morgue’ located in the Paju area, Gyeonggi-do.

The remains, which had been placed in coffins on that very day, were uncovered from March to November last year, and confirmed through a thorough identification process to be the remains of soldiers in the Chinese army.

The ceremony was held with Defense attaché Major general Du Nong Yi from the Chinese embassy in Korea and related Chinese officials in attendance. The remains will be sent back to China through a ‘Chinese remains handing-over ceremony’ co-held by Korea and China at Incheon airport on the 31st.

Previously, the MND sent 437 remains back to China in 2014, and 68 in 2015.
