All the soldiers of the 4th Hanbit Unit, the reconstruction support group for South Sudan, were awarded a commemorative medal for successful completion of the PKO mission.

The unit held the ‘UN medal parade,’ a medal awarding event, which was set up by the supreme commander Johannes Tesfa Mariam of UNIMISS, on June 4, local time.

The event was attended by around 400 people including government officials of South Sudan and the Korean ambassador to Uganda Park Jong-dae. Especially Captain Choi Gwang-sun, a nursing officer, and 9 other soldiers who have been performing their missions since the third unit was deployed had the honor of putting on a badge, given to personnel whose dispatching period is more than 1 year.

The 4th Hanbit unit that has been on their missions since last November has repaired 124km of road connecting Bor and Juba city that South Sudan has desired for a long time, and developed various humanitarian supporting activities.

Ambassador Park said, “I am very proud of the Hanbit soldiers who have made an effort to give hope to South Sudan and raise the stature of Korea. I hope to keep up continuous activities and good health for reconstruction in South Sudan.”

Meanwhile, the 4th unit is scheduled to shift their mission with the 5th this coming July.
