‘Space security for sustainable space activities’
Participants discuss global governance and global space cooperation

「1st Space Security Working Group Forum」

On September 6, 2022 (Tuesday), the Ministry of National Defense held the first space and security working group forum at Lotte Hotel in Seoul, with approximately 150 defense officials and civilian space experts from 37 countries in attendance.

In his opening address Deputy Defense Minister for Policy Heo Tae-keun, who presided over the forum, said that the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea (ROK) has been continuously strengthening defense space capabilities to embody the performance concept of joint space operations, with the goal of ‘developing jointness-based defense space capabilities,’ stressing that the ROK will continue to serve as a bridge in the international community to strengthen cooperation in space security.

In this forum, presentations and discussions on ‘seeking international norms and international governance to ensure space security’ and ‘global space cooperation to reduce space threats’ were conducted under the theme of ‘space security for sustainable space activities.’

Based on the results of discussion in this forum, the ministry will continue to play an exemplary and leading role for the international community in the development of defense space capabilities and space security.
