Vice defense minister holds ROK-Singapore bilateral talks on the sidelines of 「Seoul Defense Dialogue 2022」

Vice defense ministers of the ROK and Singapore discuss ways to strengthen ROK-Singapore defense cooperation

On September 7 (Wednesday), Vice Minister of National Defense Shin Beom-chul held bilateral talks with his Singaporean counterpart Chan Heng Kee, visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK) to participate in the ｢Seoul Defense Dialogue 2022｣, and the two sides exchanged opinions on measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of national defense and arms industry technology.

Shin made the assessment that the two countries have continuously developed amicable cooperative relations in various areas, including politics, the economy, and national defense, since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1975, sharing the experience of advanced growth, called the ‘Miracle of the Han River’ and the ‘Miracle of the Equator,’ and the future vision of win-win prosperity.

Significantly, with a reminder that both countries are in a similar security environment, Shin stressed the need to further strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries by responding jointly to the growing non-traditional security threats in areas such as cyber security, maritime security, and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear), in line with the 「Memorandum of Understanding on ROK-Singapore Defense Cooperation」 amended last June.
