Deployment of US B-1B strategic bombers to the Korean Peninsula and South Korea-US joint air drill (ROK F-35A, US F-22/F-35B)

The ROK and US Air Forces conducted their first joint air drill of 2023 on Wednesday, Feb. 1, with the deployment of US strategic assets. The drill was conducted over the Yellow Sea with the participation of Korean F-35A fighters and US B-1B strategic bombers and F-22 and F-35B fighters.

This drill actively implemented “timely and coordinated strategic asset deployment” as agreed upon last year at the ROK-US Summit and the 54th ROK-US Security Consultative Meeting (SCM).

Going forward, South Korea and the US will continue to strengthen joint drills linked to the deployment of US strategic assets to enhance the Korean people's confidence in US extended deterrence and to further strengthen the capabilities and posture to respond decisively to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
