On June 29, the Navy’s Second Fleet held a ceremony at the West Sea Protection Hall square to mark the 18th anniversary of the Second Yeonpyeong Battle.

Presided over by Second Fleet Commander Yoo Geun-jong, the event was attended by some 130 people, including the bereaved families of the six soldiers who fell in the Second Yeonpyeong Battle, veterans, soldiers and civilian workers from the Second Fleet.

In consideration of the COVID-19 situation, the fleet minimized the invited guests and maintained a distance between persons of at least two meters in order to follow the prevention guidelines.

The event started with an opening address, and was followed by the pledge of allegiance, a retelling of the Second Yeonpyeong Battle, a commemorative address by the Second Fleet Commander, words of encouragement from the representative of bereaved families, the singing of a resolution of marine protection and a naval song in unison, and a closing address.

After the event, some bereaved families paid tribute to the six soldiers who had fallen in the Second Yeonpyeong Battle in the Daejeon National Cemetery.

“Let’s continue the history and tradition of ‘Victory Second Fleet Which Always Wins in Battle’ while remembering the noble sacrifice and devotion of our senior soldiers who bravely died in action to protect the seas of our country,” Commander Yoo said in his commemorative address.
