On January 29, Minister of National Defense Jeong Kyeong-doo shared the Ministry's assessment of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and discussed ways to boost cooperation between the armies of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States (US) at a meeting with visiting US Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and US Army Pacific Commander General Paul LaCamera, which was held at the ministry’s building in Yongsan, Seoul.

Explaining the government’s efforts to achieve a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, Minister Jeong highlighted the alliance-based policy cooperation between the two countries and the importance of an ironclad combined defense posture in order to achieve denuclearization and permanent peace on the peninsula without losing the impetus of dialogue amid the changing security situation.

Jeong also asked for the continued support of the US Army and its Pacific Command, praising them for setting conditions for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and militarily assisting the two governments’ diplomatic efforts to establish a permanent peace on the peninsula during the last year.

Stressing the importance of the alliance between the ROK and the US, McCarthy and LaCamera vowed to strengthen communication and cooperation between the armies of the two countries for the maintenance of a combined defense posture.
